Artist Thelma Winter, 1931-2009
|
Mrs. Winter began painting in her 50s after she had raised four children and had taught music in her home for decades. Her sisters, Ann Klaus and Sister Ruth Schlehr, both accomplished artists, encouraged her to display her art publicly, and she did so for the first time at the Allentown Art Festival in 1982. All 24 paintings she brought with her sold that weekend. She spent the next 25 years traveling the country exhibiting at art shows from Vermont to Florida. Her method of combining pen & ink drawings with watercolor paints produced vibrant and realistic detail in her work. She was well known for her sleigh ride scenes, the local western New York Amish countryside, lighthouses and much more.
